More Then A Logo

Posted by Brooks Wachs on

The last few weeks have been fast pace for me, but that is what happens with this time of year. The season of summer and camp always involve a lot of preparation and planning. This years FCC Kids Camp might go down as one of my favorites ever for so many reasons. One reason was our theme of getting back to the “basics”. The idea of focusing on reading the Bible, praying, worshiping God, and learning to share our faith is something I think our kids need to know and value as important. It was incredible watching these kids grow throughout the week and then to watch them come back to Dodge City and put what they learned at camp into action. All of that is amazing, but the reason I think this years camp will go down as one of my favorites has to do with our camp logo.

Many of you probably have seen this logo around on camp promotions, posters, and even on our camp shirts. This isn’t something I can take credit for though. This was a design from Bri, and to be honest she knocked it out of the park. The first time I saw it I thought, "It looks great and is going to look really cool on a shirt". Little did I know God had a bigger plan with it then just being a logo on a shirt.

One day before the week of camp, David and I sat down to come up with an idea of how the final lesson of camp, which would be focused on ”sharing our faith," could have an interactive element. As we talked and went through several ideas, nothing seemed to stick for either of us. I remember asking David if there was something in the military that was used to unify and remind soldiers they are in this together. What would follow would be God working in some really cool ways leading us to look at our camp logo. Over the next few minutes we came up with a meaning for our logo that none of us had thought of prior to it being designed, but I truly believe God had it planned out the whole time.

As you look at the logo you will see that there is an upper "arrow" section. It includes three lines and each of them has a meaning. The arrow points up to show us what God has done for us. The top line reminds us that we were created by God. The middle line that is white shows we are saved by what God did for us by sending His son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. The bottom upper arrow line means that we are restored through baptism and accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

From there you will see a bottom "arrow" that shows that when we believe in Him we are called to go into the world. We are being sent by Him to take the Word of God into the world. That leaves us with the three stars that stand for what our mission statement is at FCC, “To love God, love others, and serve the world.”

You might be wondering why we choose to give this logo so much meaning. In my opinion, God took a camp moment, a camp logo, an idea, and gave it a message that we hope these kids will never forget. My hope is that every time one of them sees this logo, they know what it means. My hope is every time you see that logo you know what it means. I think we all need reminded at times what God has done for us and what we are called to do. I think it is time for all of us to take that message and go “love God, love others, and serve the world.”
