Next Step: Prayer

Next Step:  Prayer

As we continue, adjust, or just beginning our relationship with God, we all need to know the next step we need to take.

If we reflect on our desire to begin a friendship with God, the first place is the same as when we start any friendship.  We have to begin the conversation.

Beginning that conversation may seem challenging, but it really quite simple...we begin to share what is on our hearts, minds...our most consuming thoughts.  What may make it difficult is the method of communication...prayer.

Prayer is a simple thing that we can do to begin the conversation with God.  But how do we pray?  Don't feel overwhelmed...even Jesus' disciples struggled with the concept.  You might want to take a moment to read what Jesus told his disciples...as it was written by Luke.

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

So Jesus told them, “Pray in this way:  ‘Father, help us to honor your name. Come and set up your kingdom.  Give us each day the food we need.  Forgive our sins, as we forgive everyone who has done wrong to us.  And keep us from being tempted.’”      Luke 11:1-4 (Contemporary English Version, CEV)

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”     -Matthew 11:28-30

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.     -1 Peter 5:7

I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.     -Psalms 116:1-2
